Unsung Bay Ridge: A veteran activist

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCEOur unsung heroes

Our unsung hero of the week is Michael Moylan, a veteran of the U.S .Army who has dedicated a lifetime in helping veterans and those in the service of our country. Michael attended Our Lady of Angels School, and volunteers for the church in between his activities as commander of Amity Post American Legion.

He keeps busy by working hard with his fellow patriot Howie Dunn. Michael has also served as the head of the post’s Honor Guard, and donates much of his time and resources to the Wounded Warrior Project. He recently collected goods and games to take to the military hospital in Washington. He recently retired after decades of service at Con Edison. Michael is a warm, compassionate man who deserves to be recognized for his outstanding efforts in support of those who served our country.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES:   Heartburn

The combination of foods at this time of year, in more than usual quantities, will have many of us experiencing heartburn. Here are some folk remedies that are worth a try if you suffer from heartburn and the pharmaceutical alternative is unavailable.

A mixture of honey and cod liver oil gives immediate relief from the discomfort of heartburn to many who have tried this half and half mixture. Apple cider vinegar seems acidic, but many swear that it works better than most remedies they have tried.

One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar can be mixed with two tablespoons water or placed in a small quantity of apple juice seems to alleviate acid reflux.

Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or are on any medication.
