It’s a work of art.
Hundreds of students from 30 local schools were awarded for their artistic work during the Bay Ridge Community Council’s 62nd Annual Fall Poster and Window Painting Contest. The ceremony, held during a BRCC meeting on Tuesday, November 25 in the Fort Hamilton High School auditorium, featured raffles, snacks and plenty of proud parents.
“We would like to thank you all for participating in our annual Fall Poster and Window Painting Contest,” said Maria Makrinos, Art Contest Committee chair, who called up each school randomly. “A special thanks to our judges, Adelphi Academy, who gave us a heads up when our paint manufacturer unfortunately went out of business.”
Although there were some no-shows for the event, the many children that did attend were thrilled to receive recognition. Each honoree received a medal for his or her contribution, along with a certificate and letter from Councilmember Vincent Gentile.
“This year we had 335 students paint on our community’s windows and 190 posters submitted for judging, which is the most we have ever had, from 20 public schools and 10 private and parochial schools,” said Makrinos.
Students from each school got a chance to pose for photographs.
