Tree lighting ceremony sparks holiday spirit at MetroTech

Downtown Brooklyn saw uplifted spirits on Monday, December 1 as MetroTech Center celebrated its 25th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The free event, hosted by Forest City Ratner Companies, featured a Santa-bag-sized list of activities and performances that went on despite the rainy weather.

“We’re honored that we could host downtown Brooklyn’s tree lighting ceremony for the 25th year in a row,” said MaryAnne Gilmartin, President and CEO of Forest City Ratner Companies. “[We’re] happy that so many Brooklynites of all ages could come out to kick off the holiday season.”

Santa Claus and his Robotic Helper from the NYU Mechatronics Lab were joined by entertainers from the Big Apple Circus, the Brooklyn Tech High School Choir, student performers from the American Ballet Theatre JKO School, and Brooklyn Nets player Brook Lopez.

Hot chocolate and refreshments were served, courtesy of Luciano’s.
