Hope for IHOP in Coney Island

An International House of Pancakes – better known as simply IHOP – is rumored to be the next franchise in line for Coney Island’s Surf Avenue.

The chain eatery, overseen by franchiser DineEquity – an American company that began as IHOP Corporation and has since gone on to own Applebees, a restaurant opened on the Surf Avenue strip in June of 2013 – will reportedly open up shop adjacent to the Subway Café (2915 Stillwell Avenue), and directly across the street from Luna Park.

Craig Hoffman, senior manager of external communications at DineEquity, could not confirm the claims.

“I can only confirm that there is buzz,” he told this paper, adding that he could not confirm an IHOP for Coney Island “yet.”

“Anything that improves the growth and enjoyment of the people of the community and brings people into Coney Island is an achievement,” noted Community Board 13 Chair Stephen Moran.

The Alliance for Coney Island declined to comment.
