Serial laundromat groper sentenced to three years in prison

Twenty-nine-year-old Lowell Britt of Long Island has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexually abusing young women in Brownsville and Canarsie laundromats.

Britt pleaded guilty in December to four counts of persistent sexual abuse, two counts of forcible touching, one count of second-degree sexual abuse, six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of public lewdness, two counts of exposure of a person and six counts of second-degree harassment.

According to court records, Britt approached eight victims in laundromats in Canarsie and Brownsville between July 19, 2010 and March 30, 2013, rubbing against them, exposing himself of acting in some other inappropriate sexual manner.

“This defendant degraded and violated innocent women and young girls repeatedly with his lewd, vile and reprehensible conduct, which will affect his victims for years to come,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson on Tuesday, January 6, following Britt’s sentencing. “Fortunately, he’s off the streets now and in prison, where he belongs.”

Britt’s sentencing – which also mandated that he register as a sex offender post-incarceration– was similar to that which he received in a previous Queens-based conviction.
