It was another Golden Lunar New Year at a local high school as over 1,000 Brooklynites welcomed in the Year of the Goat in style.
State Senator Marty Golden hosted his annual Lunar New Year Celebration at New Utrecht High School on Sunday, March 1.
The yearly tradition has been an opportunity for children and their families to enjoy a day of celebrating the Chinese culture by dressing up, singing, dancing, and digging in to traditional food. This year was no different.
“Senator Golden is proud to have again hosted a great event for the community in celebration of the Lunar New Year,” said Golden Spokesperson John Quaglione. “More than 1,000 people took part in the festivities and enjoyed the ethnic performances, including the Lion Dance and Chinese Opera.”
Dancers from the Jenny Dance Arts School and Arts Plaza Dance School performed, as well as children from P.S. 105.
Performers and organizers of the highly attended event received certificates from the state senator for their dedication in helping putting together the successful event which has become a staple of the community.
“With a community so rich in diversity, it is important that we celebrate the culture of our neighbors and create a community we can all be proud to call home,” added Quaglione.
