Blotter: 62nd Precinct

Between Monday, March 30 and Sunday, April 5, the 62nd Precinct received reports of three felony assaults, two grand larcenies, one robbery, and one grand larceny auto. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

CONEHEAD

A 54-year-old man was struck in the head with a street cone on Sunday, April 5 at around 6 p.m. The man, described as Hispanic, was sitting on a newspaper rack outside of a deli on the corner of Kings Highway and West Second Street when a stranger came up behind up and hit him in the head with the cone before grabbing him and throwing him to the ground. The perp, who cops describe as a 30-year-old man, fled the scene and the man was taken to Lutheran Medical Center.

CHAIR-SIDED

On Wednesday, April 1 at around 5 p.m., a 33-year-old Middle Eastern man told police that a stranger came up to him inside a grocery store on Bay Ridge Parkway and hit him in the arm with a chair. The man was removed to Lutheran Medical Center and the perp was apprehended.

BITTER WINE

A 30-year-old woman hit her husband in the head with a wine bottle inside of their apartment near 71st Street and 14th Avenue on Monday, March 30 at around 8 p.m. The man, 35, sustained an injury to his head and was taken to Lutheran Medical Center.

SWEET CRIMINALS

A store manager working at a pharmacy near 86th and Bay 10th Streets noticed several cases of candy and gum missing when she was taking inventory on Sunday, April 5. After viewing security footage, the manager saw two black men in hooded sweatshirts enter the store around 8 p.m. and remove multiple items from the candy aisle and place them into a black garbage back before leaving the store.

BACKED IN

On Thursday, April 2, a 30-year-old man told cops that his van was broken into at around 3 p.m. near 80th Street and 15th Avenue where he was working on construction around his home. According to cops, the perp broke the rear lock of the van and removed tools and other property valued at $2,289. There were no cameras in the area and cops did not apprehend anyone in connection to the crime.

BACKLASH

While walking home on Saturday, April 4 at around 10 p.m., a 19-year-old Asian man was approached from behind and threatened by a 20-year-old black man near 86th Street and 35th Avenue. The perp told the man that he would “knock” him out if he refused to hand over his money and cellphone. The perp made off with $20 and a phone and the man sustained no injuries.

CONFUSED CAR OWNER

A woman told police that her work car, a 2014 white Honda Accord, was stolen from where she had parked it on 67th Street on Friday, April 3 at 8 p.m. The woman told cops that she was “not sure” if she left it unlocked or if she had left the keys inside the car. Cops reported no broken glass at the scene and all checks to see if the car had been towed came up negative.
