Three Brooklyn libraries awarded for service

The New Lots Library in East New York was one of five New York City libraries chosen by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Charles H. Revson Foundation as winners of the second annual NYC Neighborhood Library Awards, an event which celebrates the crucial role of local libraries in serving the city’s diverse communities.

The five winners emerged from more than 13,000 nominations by New Yorkers who, officials say, nominated every single branch in the city’s three library systems. Other winning libraries included Langston Hughes Library in Queens, Mott Haven Library and Parkchester Library in the Bronx and Stapleton Library in Staten Island.

Each of the five winners received $20,000.

Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill Library and Windsor Terrace Library were deemed runners-up and awarded $10,000.
