A routine stop of five individuals found in public with open containers of alcohol resulted in police officers within the 72nd Precinct arresting two suspects for felony criminal possession of weapon.
On Sunday, May 31, cops witnessed the five males drinking beer at Fifth Avenue and 48th Street at approximately 3:55 p.m. According to the NYPD, when the officers approached the men, one of the suspects, 22-year-old Emanuel Velez attempted to throw a gun, a silver Smith and Wesson firearm, away from the scene.
Upon further search, police said another suspect, 29-year-old Jose Ramirez, was found in possession of a gravity knife. Police Officers Bonavita and Hoe arrested the two on the scene for criminal possession of a weapon
The other three males were charged with possessing open containers of alcohol.
