Generally Speaking: BRCC President sworn in for a 2nd Term

Vincent Bocchino, who currently also heads the Ovington Chapter #5055 of the AARP, has been elected for a second term as president of the Bay Ridge Community Council. Bocchino is a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, a retired New York City Transit bus driver and a former GOP committeemember and district leader.

Other elected officers include Ralph Succar, first vice president; Janet Gounis, second vice president; Sandy Vallas, Treasurer; Robert Kassenbrock, executive secretary; Joanna Succar, recording secretary; and Josephine Giammarino, corresponding secretary. Reappointed Parliamentarian and Historian were Jane Kelly and Eileen Potter respectively.

Elected to the council’s Board of Directors were Greg Ahl, Mary Bocchino, Eugene Breheny, Alex Conti, Joan Curran, Renee Dorsa, Ted General, Kelly, Frank Lombardi, Gloria Melnick, Chris Merlino, Roseanne Miller, Linda Orlando, Potter, Linda Rubino, Joseph Sbarra, Michael Vitucci and Mary Ann Walsh.
Among the elected directors who have served as past BRCC Presidents are Ahl, Conti, Kelly and Melnick. The council recently held its 64th anniversary dinner dance on June 4, at Sirico’s Catering Hall where the new officers were sworn in by New York City Civil Court Justice Theresa Ciccotto.


The Fort Hamilton U.S. Army Garrison held a military retreat exercise heralding the 240th birthday of the Army and the 190th birthday of Fort Hamilton. The program included a celebratory cake cutting by Garrison Commander Colonel Joseph Davidson using a ceremonial Army sword.


At the June meeting of the Society of Old Brooklynites at Borough Hall,
Ron Schweiger, the borough historian and past society president, passed the gavel to incoming President George Broadhead who will be formally installed with the other society officers including yours truly by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams at the society’s 135th anniversary luncheon at the Bay Ridge Manor on June 28.
