GYMGUYZ seeks to make working out simpler than ever

Shaping Bay Ridge up!

There’s a new kid on the block that’s ready to provide a good workout for the neighborhood. Growing mobile personal training and fitness franchise company GYMGUYZ, labeled “Number 1 in home personal training” has made its way to Bay Ridge.

Known for its red van sporting the company’s logo, GYMGUYZ held its ribbon cutting on Tuesday, June 16 at Pipin’s Pub. Councilmember Vincent Gentile and President of Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Carlo Scissura joined members of the neighborhood’s newest workout company to celebrate.

GYMGUYZ is unique due to coaches’ flexible schedules and how they are willing to travel to your place of preference. “We come to your choice of setting with 365 pieces of equipment in our van and we give you a workout wherever you want — whatever is convenient to the customer,” said owner and coach, 21-year-old Michael Hjalte, who was recently named a Rising Star by The Home Reporter. “We opened up just a couple of weeks ago, but things are going well. The word is getting out there. We come to you. Sometimes people work too much and can’t make it to the gym. Whatever the reason is, we make it convenient.”

“Whether it’s the home, the office or a park, we’ll go anywhere,” added co-owner Melayne Furer.

GYMGUYZ caters to all ages using its two coaches, Hjalte and Mike Cronin. “We work with everyone, kids to senior citizens, and come up with a customized workout depending what their goal is, because everyone’s goal is different,” Hjalte noted. “We have a different workout for everyone.”

Founder of GYMGUYZ Josh York came up with the idea in 2008 and began franchising the company in March of last year. “He’s been growing ever since, very quickly,” said Furer. “We’re his first in Brooklyn.”

Although GYMGUYZ has just entered the neighborhood, popularity has quickly risen. “People that have heard about it absolutely love the concept. The concept resonates with people,” said Furer. “Every now and then, you have trainers that will come to your home. In a company setting, no one is doing it. It’s exciting.”

According to Hjalte, pricing is also a perk. ‘You have no membership fees,” he explained. “You have no yearly dues or maintenance fee. It’s just the rate for our session.”

GYMGUYZ is also already giving back to the community, having sponsored an event for veterans at Dyker Heights Golf Course. “We’re very much about giving back. Our philosophy is to not only make people feel better about them and be healthy but to do as much as we can, especially for our veterans,” said Furer.
