Rhapsody Players bring summer to the city

The Rhapsody Players are back again with another fund-raising performance – this time at the recently renovated St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church.

The seven-person singing group, currently in its 10th season, will be performing hit songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and early ‘80s during its “Summer in the City” concert on July 11.

The group had previously performed at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Fort Hamilton Parkway, till it closed for good last September.

Although the concert will take place in St. Mary’s air-conditioned hall, proceeds from the concert will benefit the “Christ Be With You” campaign at St. Patrick’s Church for capital improvements on the property.

“I offered to give the money to the venue, but they refused.” said John Heffernan, who heads the Rhapsody Players. “St. Mary’s is showing a spirit of community.”

The $20 ticket fee includes wine, beer, and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets can be purchased in advance by emailing broadwayjack@earthlink.net, or by calling 646-335-2710. St.Mary’s Church is located at 191 81st Street in Bay Ridge.

The Rhapsody Players will be performing again in the fall at St. Mary’s on October 3. Proceeds from that show will support the venue.
