Rising culinary star Chef Kristin Sollenne will be having a book signing for her soon-to –be-released, widely endorsed cookbook, Domestic Chic, A Fashionably Fabulous Guide for Cooking & Entertaining, at Bay Ridge’s Book Mark Shoppe on September 18.
“Everyone is always stressed out about cooking and they think it’s a hard task to take on,” Sollenne said. “I’m keeping it really simple and more of a go-to guide for people to get them cooking and enjoying being in the kitchen.”
The book signing will take place at 8415 Third Avenue from 7-9 p.m. Her cookbook, which will be released on September 4, provides a guide for cooking and entertainment based on the seasons. It features 16 pre-planned menus and over 100 recipes paired with décor tips that coincide with each season’s holidays and celebrations, and Sollenne enriches the book with touching family stories and traditions.
In addition, as a certified nutritionist, Sollenne infuses seasonal produce into her cookbook and demonstrates a farm-to-table approach to traditional Italian style cooking that focuses on creating healthy, flavorful dishes.
Sollenne, a self-taught chef currently living in New York City, discovered her talent for creating fresh spins on classic Italian dishes while she was growing up in California. Her mission was to help her parents attain their weight loss goals without compromising their favorite foods.
“What sparked me into a career was when my father had a heart attack, and he’s the ultimate food lover, and at that point I was studying nutrition and I completely changed the way that he was eating and his whole life,” Sollenne said. “I saw the impact I had on him and I was like, ‘This is my passion.’”
Sollenne was named a 2013 honoree of Zagat’s Top 30 under 30, and she has recently been making headlines for her approachable cooking tips, lightened-up Italian fare and contemporary food philosophy.
Aside from being featured on plenty of television programs, Sollenne has cooked for Taylor Swift, Seth Rogan, Ed Sheeran and the entire SNL cast in New York City’s Restaurant Group’s Bocca Di Bacco, where she oversees their three kitchens.
Domestic Chic will be released on September 4 in hardcover, eBook and audio book. A boxed gift-set that includes the book and one Sollenne’s aprons from her couture designer apron line, Cellini, will be released at the same time.
