A New York man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, August 10, for leading a string of violent daytime robberies across the Northeast, including one at a Sunset Park jewelry store during which the owner was shot.
According to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara’s office, Sean Robinson, along with 10 other defendants, has been charged for their respective roles in the robbery conspiracy that lasted from 2013 to 2014.
“Sean Robinson led a violent robbery crew that terrorized employees and customers at high-end jewelry and watch stores up and down the Northeastern seaboard, from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Connecticut to New Jersey and Virginia,” said Bharara. “Robinson’s crime spree included a gunpoint robbery in broad daylight of a Brooklyn jewelry store where the robbers shot the store owner.”
The store, Litan Jewelry Inc., was located at 4274 Fifth Avenue and was robbed in September of 2013. According to Bharara, two of the robbers displayed guns during the stick-up and one of them shot the store owner when he attempted to stop members of the crew from fleeing with the stolen jewelry.
District Judge Loretta Preska, who sentenced Robinson, said that he “planned and organized all of these robberies,” which were “very serious offenses with serious consequences to victims [and] bystanders.” Preska also said that Robinson’s “involvement reflects a total disregard for the law.”
