Clinton Hill man charged in kidnapping, raping and torturing former girlfriend

A 31-year-old Brooklyn man was convicted of kidnapping, raping and torturing his former girlfriend for three straight days with their two-year-old daughter in the apartment, announced District Attorney Ken Thompson on Wednesday, September 16.

According to Thompson, Clinton Hill resident Alex Anselmo was convicted on all 17 charges he faced after allegedly beating his former girlfriend with a dumbbell, severing a tendon in her foot, shaving her head and sexually assaulting her – all while she was handcuffed – until a neighbor heard the cocking of a gun and called the police.

““This defendant is a monster,” said Thompson. “He mercilessly tortured a defenseless woman and would have probably killed her if he wasn’t stopped. We intend to ask for the maximum sentence so he will spend the rest of his life in a prison cell where he belongs.”

According to trial testimony, Anselmo became increasingly obsessive and incensed once he learned that the victim – a 31-year-old woman with whom he has two daughters – was seeing a new man and planning to move to Florida. On April 1, 2013, Anselmo pushed his way into the victim’s Bed-Stuy apartment and handcuffed her to the bed, where she remained tied for most of the following three days, while their two-year old daughter was kept in the living room.

In total, the victim suffered 50 wounds to her body.

Phone records also show that, two days prior to the incident, Anselmo had conducted numerous web searched on how many Xanax pills are needed to cause a death and on how to sterilize a woman.

He faces up to 50 years to life in prison.
