Coney Island ride gets ‘historic’ nod from governor

B&B Carousell, the only remaining historic roundabout on Coney Island, is among 27 properties, resources and districts recommended by Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday, September 21 to be added to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

“These sites are the locations of significant moments in New York’s rich history that in many cases reverberated across the nation and beyond,” said Cuomo, who also recommended an expansion of the Prospect Heights Historic District as well as the inclusion of the Greenwood Baptist Church in Park Slope. “By placing these landmarks on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, we are honoring and preserving their legacy and giving visitors the chance to learn about this state’s vibrant history.”

The historic ride dates back to 1906.
