62nd Precinct Police Beat: Man swipes potato chips and chocolate from Bensonhurst bodega

Between Friday, October 16 and Monday, October 19, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one robbery, two burglaries and one grand larceny. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

ON THE LOOSEY

An 18-year-old man was apprehended by police after reportedly robbing a bodega near Bath and 25th Avenues and punching a 59-year-old store employee in the face.

According to cops, the 18-year-old walked into the bodega on Friday, October 16 at around 2:45 p.m. and asked the employee for “loosey cigarettes.” When the employee told the perp he did not have them, the perp began robbing the store, taking with him $5 to $8 worth of potato chips and chocolate. Once the employee confronted him about not paying, the 18-year-old punched him in the face.

TOOLING AROUND

According to police, an unknown perp entered a storage area near West Seventh Street and Avenue U on Friday, October 16 at around 3:30 p.m. and stole miscellaneous tools from multiple locked storage boxes. Cops say that the area is not accessible to the public and that the perp manually opened the locks on the storage boxes.

COLD BURGLAR

A 42-year-old Asian man told police that an unknown man entered an apartment building near 15th Avenue and 85th Street on Monday, October 19 at around 8:20 a.m. by pushing in an air conditioner in a first floor window and then fleeing with assorted jewelry. According to police, a camera nearby captured partial footage from the incident.

CASHED

A 47-year-old Asian woman told police that an unknown perp cashed a check in her name on Monday, October 19. According to police, the perp was able to cash the check because the woman signed it, left the amount blank and lost it.
