62nd Precinct Police Beat: Woman hits husband with candlestick, stranger throws glass cup at woman

Between Friday, October 9 and Monday, October 12, the 62nd Precinct received reports of two felony assaults, two robberies and one burglary. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

BLOWN AWAY
A 54-year-old man and his 49-year-old wife got into a verbal dispute on Sunday, October 11, that resulted in the woman hitting her husband in the head with a candlestick at around 11:50 a.m. inside their Bay Eighth Street apartment.

According to police, the pair had been having ongoing disputes about the woman being unemployed and Sunday’s argument started after she came home late the night before. The man suffered a minor cut and was bleeding from the head after the blow. He was taken to Lutheran Medical Center.

GLASSY ASSAULT
A 26-year-old woman told police that while she was sitting down outside near 86th Street and 24th Avenue on Sunday, October 11 at around 2:50 a.m., an unidentified man came up to her, told her to get up, and then hit her in the face with a glass cup when she refused. The woman had no visible injuries according to cops and the man fled in an unknown direction.

FOUL PLAY
While playing basketball at a park near Cropsey Avenue and 21st Avenue on Monday, October 12 at around 5 p.m., a 19-year-old was punched in the face by a 14-year-old who then proceeded to steal his cellphone. According to cops, the 19-year-old suffered bruising and cuts to the mouth and nose.

TRIPLE THREAT
On Monday, October 12 while walking near New Utrecht Avenue and 63rd Street at around 7:25 p.m., a 30-year-old man was approached by three perps who pushed him into a metal gate, held him up by the arm and went through his pockets. According to police, the perps then punched the man in the face multiple times and made off with his hat. The perps were two Hispanic males, one 22, one 17 and one female, 27.

OPEN DOOR
After returning home to her apartment near 65th Street and 20th Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9, a 26-year-old Asian woman noticed her front door was cracked open with visible damage done to her chain latch lock.

The woman told police that she left her apartment at around 10:30 a.m. and recalled closing the door and locking it behind her. According to police, the woman walked in to find several rooms in the house ransacked and $7,000 in cash missing, along with jewelry.
