62nd Precinct Police Beat: Burglar targets Cropsey construction site

Between Friday, November 13 and Monday, November 16, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one burglary, one grand larceny and two robberies. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

DECONSTRUCTED
A construction site foreman working near Cropsey and 23rd Avenues on Friday, November 13 at around 3:30 p.m., told police that after locking up the yard for the weekend, he returned on Monday, November 16 to find sections of scaffolding missing from the site. The man also told cops that he was robbed at the same location last month. The property stolen from the site totals $27,000 according to police.

TAKEN TO TOWN
On Saturday, November 14, a 55-year-old man reported to police that $1,625 in unauthorized charges were made to his account. According to cops, the unknown perp used the man’s personal information to make purchases in New Jersey and New York.

BAD NIGHT OUT
At around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, two unknown male perps robbed a man and a woman just after they got out of a taxi near 82nd Street and 23rd Avenue. According to police, the pair began walking home when the two perps approached them from behind and demanded the man’s backpack and the woman’s purse.

One of the perps tried to stab the man in the thigh when he wouldn’t give up his backpack, but the man’s cellphone, tucked inside his pocket, stopped the blow. The pair eventually gave up their belongings to the perps, yielding property that includes credit/debit cards and electronics.

SCARY CELL SWIPE
A 17-year-old boy told police that on Friday, November 13, two unknown men approached him near West Fourth Street and Avenue P around 4:50 p.m., assaulted him and stole his cellphone. According to cops, the 17-year-old reported seeing the duo on a B82 bus when he boarded at Coney Island Avenue earlier that day.
