Unsung Bay Ridge: Sincere salute

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Our unsung heroes

This week, I am honored to recognize Juan Caez as our person of the week. He serves as the Community Ambassador between Fort Hamilton and Bay Ridge.

Juan arrived at Fort Hamilton 12 years ago as Command Sergeant Major. Immediately, he reached out to the community, assisting veterans, leading soldiers to clean our parks, and permitting community groups the use of the base. For example, the Narrows Community Theatre continues to use the Post Theatre. He helps to coordinate the base holiday parties that are supported by our restaurants, schools and individuals who coordinate the toy drive.

Juan became Fort Hamilton’s safety director and continues to develop and support fire companies that hold their picnics on the base. He also provides honor guards and special units for our parades. Juan and his lovely wife Rosa have brought both communities together. He is supported by his daughter Crystal and sons, Christian and Juan. We are fortunate that Sergeant Major Juan Caez (Ret.) has remained at Fort Hamilton.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Healthy Prostate

One folk remedy for keeping your prostate healthy is to sprinkle apple cider vinegar sprinkled on raw tomatoes.

This exercise reportedly helps keep the prostate healthy – when watching television, squeeze your buttocks together 10 or 20 times every night.

One handful of green pumpkin seeds daily is a popular home remedy for helping to correct prostate issues.

Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or are on any medication.
