72nd Precinct Police beat: Crook threatens to kill teen over cell phone, man’s home robbed twice in 10 days

Between Friday, December 4 and Monday, December 14, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two attempted robberies and three burglaries. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

DEATH THREAT

A 14-year-old Hispanic male teenager was walking near Fifth Avenue and 45th Street on Saturday, December 5 at approximately 8:05 p.m. when an 18-year-old Hispanic man confronted him and tried to steal his cell phone. After a struggle, the perp hit the teen in the face, causing the phone to drop. When the victim recovered the phone, the perp allegedly said, “Give me the phone or you’re going to die.”

Police arrived and apprehended the perp, who resisted arrest.

BAR BASH

Cops report that a 22-year-old Asian man had his iPhone snatched on Tuesday, December 8 at approximately 12:55 a.m. The victim was near a bar at Seventh Avenue and 61st Street when he was attacked by two perps, both 27-year-old Asian males, who punched him in the face several times before nabbing his phone.

The two perps were later arrested.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

Misfortune struck twice for a 44-year-old Hispanic man whose home was burglarized two times in the space of 10 days, according to cops.

The first incident came to light when the victim returned to his apartment building near Sixth Avenue and 46th Street on Thursday, November 24 at approximately 7:30 p.m. At that time, he discovered that his place had been ransacked yet nothing had been stolen.

Then, on Friday, December 4, while the victim was sleeping in the apartment, it was again broken into. When the victim woke up, he realized that an intruder had been in his home, and that his passport and immigration papers had been stolen.

No arrests have been made.

ALL FOR NOTHING

A 32-year-old woman returned home from a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday, December 13, to discover that an unknown perp had broken into her apartment near 61st Street and Fifth Avenue through the kitchen window near the fire escape. While the apartment had been ransacked, no property was stolen.

LORD OF THE RINGS

A jewelry thief broke into a home near Fifth Avenue and 62nd Street and stole several rings totaling approximately $4,960 on Monday, December 14.

The break-in occurred sometime after 8:30 a.m. when the 62-year-old Hispanic woman living there left her place to go to work. When she returned, she saw her bedroom had been ransacked. Her dresser was open and the rings, including a diamond wedding ring set and a college ring, were missing.

No arrests have been made.
