72nd Precinct Police Beat: Perp arrested for punching woman in the face in front of her children

Between Monday, November 30 and Monday, December 7, the 72nd Precinct received reports of one assault, two attempted robberies and one grand larceny. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

COWARD ASSAULT

Cops say a woman was beaten by a 34-year-old Hispanic man in front of her children on Monday, November 30. At approximately 12:31 a.m., the victim was walking near 61st Street and Third Avenue when the perp punched her in the face several times, and then choked her.

He was arrested later that day for assault.

THE NEGOTIATOR

A body shop visit turned confrontational for a man who brought his vehicle in after an accident

According to police, the customer brought his car to the shop on Monday, December 7 at approximately 12:40 p.m. following a car accident near 24th Street and Fourth Avenue.

There, the 27-year-old white man who had taken the victim to the car repair place for an estimate on repairing the damage demanded $500 from the victim. When he refused, the man stole his cell phone and wallet and threatened to hurt him if he didn’t pay.

The alleged perp was arrested later that day.

SUCKER PUNCH

A Sunset Park woman was punched in the face when she tried to stop a burglar from stealing her property, according to police.

Cops report that the resident caught the 63-year-old Hispanic woman who had broken into her home near Seventh Avenue and 50th Street on Wednesday, December 2, at approximately 2:30 p.m. A struggle ensued, resulting in the alleged perp punching the victim in the face several times before fleeing to 50th Street and Eighth Avenue where she was apprehended

UNFARE CAB RIDE

A cab driver was stiffed by a 30-year-old customer who refused to pay a fare totaling approximately $32.80 on Friday, December 4 at approximately 4:49 a.m.

Cops report that, when the driver dropped off his passenger near 68th Street and Fifth Avenue and asked for the money, the passenger became aggressive and started a verbal dispute. He then reportedly broke the victim’s windshields with his fist, before heading into his apartment, grabbing a knife and coming back out to tell the driver again that he wasn’t paying.

The suspect was arrested.
