72nd Precinct Police Beat: Three men assault, rob man on Christmas day

Between Friday, December 25 and Monday, January 4, the 72nd Precinct received reports of one attempted robbery, one robbery, one assault and one burglary. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

BAD SANTA

Cops say a 59-year old Hispanic man was assaulted and robbed while walking home on Friday, December 25 at approximately 4:35 a.m.

When the victim neared Fourth Avenue and 47th Street, three men, described by him as black males in black sweaters, approached him, punched him in the face, resulting in a bloody lip, and pushed him to the ground. The alleged robbers then stole the victim’s wallet which contained approximately $250. The crooks fled northbound on Fourth Avenue and 46th Street.

The perps have yet to be apprehended.

NOT A DRILL

A 49-year-old white man attempted to steal a drill from a large home improvement store on Hamilton Avenue on Tuesday, December 29 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Police say security guards witnessed the attempted robbery and approached the thief. The perp responded by hitting one of the guards, a 28-year-old black man, in the face. Other security guards held the suspect down until police arrived. He was arrested shortly after.

A FEW LOOSE SCREWS

A 29-year-old man was walking to his home near Ocean Parkway and Kermit Place on Saturday, December 26 at approximately 2:20 a.m. when he was assaulted with a screwdriver by a 52-year-old black man whom he approached after recognizing him as a suspect in a burglary that had occurred nearby.

The alleged perp was later arrested and charged with assault.

LOCK PICKER

On Monday, January 4 from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., a burglar broke into the apartment of a 39-year-old white woman near 22nd Street between Third and Fourth Avenues by picking the lock to the front door. Once inside, the unknown perp stole approximately $1,700 worth of jewelry, including a gold necklace and a diamond ring from the victim’s bedroom dresser.

No arrests have been made.
