A Queens man has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a 54-year-old bicyclist who was struck and killed near the corner of East Ninth Street and Avenue U on Tuesday, January 19, within the confines of the 61st Precinct.
Junior J. Hicks, 31, has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with death involved.
Gravesend resident Reng Can Ma was traveling westbound just past 5 p.m. when, police say, he was hit by a Ryder box truck with Indiana plates that was allegedly being driven by Hicks.
Officers at the scene determined that the bicyclist was riding parallel to the truck – which did not remain at the scene – when he was struck.
The victim was transported to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
