COMMUNITY NEWS
Our community is a vibrant and beautiful place in which to live, due to the extraordinary efforts of all who live and work here. This week I would like to highlight the contribution of Linda Duncan, retired deputy commander of the Fort Hamilton Army Base, who continues her community work in the area, though she has retired.
Linda is an active member of the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade Committee. She is also very active in the Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee, whenever base closures come up for consideration. She often worked with the late Howie Dunn, with the Wounded Warriors project; and is active at the base chapel in helping to welcome new families and minister to the spiritual needs of those who are in active service.
Linda always has a warm smile and hug for anyone who approaches her. We are thankful that she has chosen to stay and contribute her services to our community.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES
High Blood Pressure: Ground flaxseed is used by many to reduce the amount of blood pressure meds they need to take. Doctors have often lowered their patients’ dosages when they take four tablespoons of ground flaxseed, two in the morning and two in the evening. The flaxseed must be ground just before taking and sprinkled in oatmeal, on salads or in juice.
Tumors: In addition to following their doctor’s orders, sufferers have found breast lumps disappear when using two ground teaspoons of flax per day. The flaxseed is more potent when just ground than if bought already ground.
Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or are on any medication.
