Between Thursday, January 21 and Tuesday, January 26, the 68th Precinct received reports of two burglaries, one robbery and one grand larceny. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.
SCAMMING THE ELDERLY
An 82-year-old woman was tricked out of approximately $1,202, police say. On Tuesday, January 26 at approximately 2:06 p.m., an unknown male perp called the woman at her home near 99th Street and Third Avenue, claiming to be a sergeant from the United States Embassy and telling her that her grandson had been arrested and they needed cash to release him. The perp then instructed the victim to go to Western Union to wire the money to an account.
Once she did, the fraudulent transaction was successfully completed.
DOUBLE TEAMED
A man was walking near 10th Avenue and 72nd Street on Tuesday January 26 at approximately 10:50 p.m. when two unknown male perps pushed him against a front door and stole $60 from his pocket before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction
GAME OVER
A 25-year-old man received a rude welcome when he returned home from a trip on Tuesday, January, January 26.
Sometime between 11 p.m. on Thursday, January 21 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, cops say the apartment at 67th Street and Eighth Avenue was broken into through a bedroom window which held the victim’s air conditioner.
Once inside, the perp stole approximately $1,770 worth of electronics, including a Sony Playstation 4, six video games, a laptop and headphones. He then exited the apartment through the front door.
10 GRAND
Cops say a 33-year-old woman returned to her home at Shore Road and 93rd Street on Thursday, January 21 at 1:30 a.m. and found approximately $10,000 missing. The burglar entered the apartment and stole the cash from a drawer sometime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20.
