68th Precinct Police Beat: Two perps caught on camera stealing over $6,000 in car parts

Between Thursday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 26, the 68th Precinct received reports of one burglary, one robbery and two grand larcenies. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

CAUGHT ON CANDID CAMERA

Two perps were caught on camera stealing car parts from a 2015 Cadillac Escalade, according to cops.

On Wednesday, February 17, a 52-year-old Asian man parked the vehicle in a company parking lot at 79th Street and Seventh Avenue. At approximately 3:47 a.m. the next morning, cops say video surveillance in the lot showed a white van with a black stain on the driver’s side pull into the parking lot.

The two unknown crooks entered the lot. One, wearing a ski mask, stood at the front of the lot to act as a lookout while the other perp stole four rims from the car worth approximately $5,000 and four Bridgestone tires and hubcaps, worth nearly $1,000.

The unknown perps fled in the white van southbound on Seventh Avenue. Cops say the company parking lot was left open and unlocked overnight.

UNFAIR FIGHT

Cops say a 25-year-old Asian man was attacked when he went to visit his ex-girlfriend at her apartment near Third Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway on Tuesday, February 16 at approximately 2:10 a.m.

While he was waiting in the hallway, according to the police, three male perps approached him and assaulted him. After they finished punching him, the perps stole the victim’s iPhone 6 Plus, worth approximately $700, before fleeing the scene. The victim claims that he recognized one of the perps.

THE WORST LOTTERY EVER WON

According to a walk-in police report, on Tuesday, February 16, an 88-year-old woman received a call from a man calling himself Mr. Nvivi, who said that she had won the lottery but needed to send a check in order to receive her winnings. The deceived victim sent a check through HSBC to the scam artist, who then disappeared without a trace. The perp left the victim’s bank account $5,000 lighter. No arrests have been made.

SWIFT THIEVES MAKE Off WITH SWIFFER MOP

Home-wrecking thieves had an eye out for housekeeping goods on Wednesday, February 17, after authorities discovered there had been two break-ins at 61 Oliver Street during the night of February 16.

Authorities discovered that the thieves had absconded with a Swiffer mop and a waterproof mattress cover, after a witness reported hearing strange sounds at around 1:30 a.m.

Surveillance camera recordings revealed the first burglar casing the location, then prying open the mailroom door and making away with unidentified goods, followed by a second man breaking into the utility room at 1:15 a.m., then leaving the location. No arrests have been made.
