72nd Precinct Police Beat: Man stabs victim in the leg

Between Tuesday, February 3 and Monday, February 15, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two assaults, one grand larceny and one incident of criminal mischief. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

PUT A CORK IN IT

A verbal dispute turned physical inside an apartment near Second Avenue and 49th Street when, on Monday, February 15 at approximately 6:50 p.m., a 40-year-old Hispanic man was assaulted by a 29-year old Hispanic woman during an argument between the two.

Cops say that during the dispute, the woman took the man’s cellphone and threw it on the floor. The victim claims that he responded by telling the woman that he didn’t want any problems. As he was leaving the apartment to go to work, cops say the woman threw a cork gun at him, hitting him in the arm and causing several cuts.

The woman was arrested on assault charges.

BAD VALENTINE

Police say a 23-year-old Hispanic man was stabbed by an unknown black male while walking on Sixth Avenue and 39th Street at approximately 12 a.m. on Sunday, February 14. During the incident, the perp stabbed the man in the right thigh with a sharp object, possibly a knife, before fleeing on foot. The victim, who suffered a puncture wound, was taken to NYU Lutheran Medical Center.

UNLOCKED

The lock was removed from the electrical distribution room on the southbound platform at the 53rd Street R train station on Wednesday, February 10.  The intrusion was discovered at approximately 6 a.m. by an MTA employee who was conducting a station inspection. Nothing was reported stolen. Police say it has been an ongoing problem at other R line stations.

METROCARD MONEY

An unknown perp broke into a 36-year-old Asian man’s car and stole several credit cards and other items sometime between Tuesday, February 9 at approximately 11 p.m. and the next morning at around 11:30 a.m.

The man had parked his car near 54th Street and Seventh Avenue. Besides the credit cards, two bags worth approximately $680 were also taken. The victim then discovered that the perp had used one of his credit cards to buy $117 worth of Metrocards six times, at a cost of approximately $1,804.

DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAR?

A 2007 Nissan Maxima belonging to a 51-year-old white man was stolen after the victim brought it to a mechanic. The victim claims that the mechanic parked the car near Second Avenue and 53rd Street on Tuesday, February 3 at approximately 11 a.m. The theft was discovered on Friday, February 5 at around 5 p.m. The car is worth approximately $5,000.
