68th Precinct Police Beat: Perp beats victim with glass bottle, destroys car over parking spot

Between Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 27, the 68th Precinct received reports of two burglaries, one robbery, one assault and one grand larceny. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

BIKE BADDIE

While walking at Shore Road and 80th Street at around 1:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was robbed of his bike and held at knifepoint by a 23-year-old black man. According to police, the perp approached the victim, displayed a five inch-switchblade and demanded his bicycle. The victim gave it to the perp who fled the scene. He was later arrested.

EXTREME ROAD RAGE

On Friday, March 25 at around 6:45 p.m. near Fifth Avenue and 73rd Street, an argument between two drivers over a parking spot escalated into violence.

According to police, in the middle of the dispute, one of the drivers, a man in his 20s, got out of his car, approached the victim, a 43-year-old man, and smashed a glass bottle on his head, causing a giant cut. A second man, also in his 20s, got out of the assailant’s car and smashed the victim’s rear window and windshields with a tire iron. The pair then fled the scene westbound on 73rd Street.

One of the perps dropped his cellphone during the altercation, though no arrest has yet been made.

NOT SO STEALTHY

A 29-year-old woman was in her apartment at Fourth Avenue and 95th Street on Monday, March 21 at approximately 3:20 p.m., when a male perp in his twenties attempted to burglarize the residence, by entering the home through the unlocked kitchen window.

Cops say that the victim was in her living room when the sound of clattering pans in the kitchen alerted her to the intruder.  The victim screamed when she saw him, causing him to drop down from the windowsill. He then fled northbound towards 94th Street. No items were stolen.

LOCK YOUR DOOR

An expensive watch and an iPad were filched from a car parked near Ninth and Bay Ridge Avenues between 4:35 p.m. on Monday, March 21, and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22. The victim, a 39-year-old woman, told police that the unknown perp had stolen a Rolex worth $8,000 and an iPad. According to the victim, the car was left unlocked.

WELCOME HOME

Approximately $2,000 was stolen from an apartment on 68th Street near Ninth Avenue on Saturday, March 19. The resident, a 41-year-old man, had left his apartment at around 3 p.m. While he was gone, a burglar entered the home through a bedroom window and ransacked it. When the victim returned home at approximately 11:30 p.m., he discovered all the drawers from both bedrooms had been pulled open and the money was missing.
