72nd Precinct Police Beat: Man punches woman for cell phone

Between Wednesday, February 24 and Monday, February 29, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two robberies, one incident of criminal mischief, one assault and one grand larceny. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

GADGET GEEK

An unknown perp stole approximately $1,065 worth of electronics from a 23-year-old man’s vehicle on Monday, February 29 sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The victim had parked his car near 46th Street and Third Avenue. While he was gone, the perp broke into the vehicle and stole several items, including a laptop, iPad and a bag. No arrests have been made.

SLASHED

Cops say a 51-year-old Hispanic woman had her four car tires slashed while her vehicle was parked near Seventh Avenue and 19th Street. The victim left her car on Monday, February 29 at 8 p.m. When she returned at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, she spotted the damage caused by the perp, resulting in approximately $250 in damages.

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE

On Monday, February 29 at approximately 8:45 p.m., a 42-year-old black man was assaulted while attempting to break up a fight between a 19-year-old black woman and her mother. The altercation occurred in an apartment on Seventh Avenue and 56th Street, where, according to the police, the two women were arguing.

Cops say the younger woman began throwing things at the man, and smashed a picture frame that had been hanging on the wall. While the man called 911, the 19-year-old grabbed a knife and threatened to stab him.

The woman was arrested on assault charges.

PERP PUNCHES WOMAN FOR PHONE

A 52-year-old Asian woman was assaulted and robbed on Monday, February 29 at approximately 12 p.m. while walking along Fifth Avenue near 54th Street. There, say cops, an unknown perp came from behind her, punched her in the face twice, then stole her cell phone and cash, totaling $255.

LATE-NIGHT DELIVERY

An 18-year-old Hispanic man was allegedly threatened with a gun by two perps while making a food delivery. Cops say that on Wednesday, February 24 at approximately 2 a.m., the victim was walking near Fifth Avenue and 18th Street, when the two suspects, described by police as Hispanic men in their twenties, approached him, showed off a black firearm and asked for the victim’s money and phone. The pair got away with $258 worth of property before fleeing the scene.
