A 21-year-old Flatbush man has been convicted on Thursday, March 3 of first-degree manslaughter after he fatally stabbed another man in the back in 2013, announced District Attorney Ken Thompson.
According to trial testimony, the defendant, Foster Avenue resident Kadeem Wilkinson, and his girlfriend were inside Flatbush Avenue eatery Chicken Express on December 6, 2013 when he accused a stranger – 26-year-old Dwight Brathwaite – of flirting with the woman.
An argument ensued and escalated into an altercation outside the restaurant, after which Wilkinson ran to his nearby home, grabbed a knife, came from behind Brathwaite – who was walking towards his home at the time – and stabbed him in the back.
“This defendant senselessly took a life over a silly argument,” said Thompson. “He made a terrible decision and will now spend many years behind bars because of that.”
Wilkinson faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 8.
