It’s all about kids at the Park Slope Everything Kids Expo

Kids seized the day thanks to the Everything Kids Expo, hosted by The Home Reporter, The Brooklyn Spectator, and St. Saviour Catholic Academy.

The event, held at St. Saviour, 701 Eighth Avenue, on Sunday, March 6, featured over 40 exhibitors who showcased their programs, food courtesy of Leske’s Bakery, and of course, activities for the kids and their parents such as a painting palette demonstration, story time, fancy painting, musical performances, raffles and more.

The sponsors were happy to partake in the fun-filled event. “We are happy to be a sponsor and host of this event, and bring the community together and learn about all these great programs and institutions that are exhibiting,” said Julian Parham Santana, director of admissions at St. Saviour. “The turnout has been great so far, but the most important thing is that It looks like everyone is having fun.”

Alex Davydov, head instructor of Amerikick, noted, “We are celebrating our 11-year anniversary. To celebrate, we are offering $11 enrollment,” he said. “We offer birthday parties, summer camps, kids and adults karate programs, an adult kickboxing program and ladies-only fitness kickboxing. We’re excited to be a part of the community and to help the children and develop them into young adults.”

Director of Lango Foreign Language Studies Becky Lin gave attendees information on Lango’s different programs. “We offer languages to kids, Spanish and Chinese,  and the programs include pre-school, summer camp and after-school. We have coloring books for kids to bring home, materials, flash cards,” she said, adding that she was also glad to be a part of the event. “We love the set-up of the location. It’s a very family-friendly neighborhood. And people are really great here,” she said.

Hoops fans were in for a treat as the Brooklyn Nets were among the day’s sponsors. “We are also providing information on some of our Junior Nets opportunities,” said Khi, a Nets rep. These include opportunities for group experiences that include jerseys and time to play basketball on the court. “They enjoy a wonderful experience at the Barclays Center, whether that’s being able to have kids play on the court during halftime or after the game,” he stressed.

Along with fun, the Kids Expo was also an educational experience for the youngsters. “We are focusing on safety and energy efficiency,” said Renee McClure of National Grid. “We are giving out a safety activity book that talks about ways to be safe and we also try to teach kids at a young age to be energy-efficient. There’s a home inspection test that kids can take home to make sure their parents are being efficient with energy too.”

Parents found the event fun for children, but also informative for them. “We loved it. It’s been really helpful,” said attendee Margie Dotter. “My daughter loved the face painting and for me, it was good to hear about some of the summer programs like the camps and after-schools. It’s just a great idea.”

“My son loves the piano class,” added Sharon George, who was in luck as Music Box School was one of the exhibitors. “I like the fact that they have all the camps out here which helps give me an idea of what to do with the kids for the summer.”

“It was even a hit for those new to the neighborhood. “We just moved here and it’s great to learn about all the opportunities for the kids,” said father Phillip Summer.
