Perps steal car, lead cops on heated chase in Bay Ridge

Cops are on the lookout for two perps who were caught fleeing on foot from a stolen car on Thursday, March 10, and led police on a wild chase.

According to a police source, anti-crime cops from the 68th Precinct were driving in an unmarked car Thursday evening when they spotted two men known to the department as repeat offenders. When officers turned on their police lights, the car took off for a single block before the two men jumped out at 67th Street and Seventh Avenue.

“They ran into [a] backyard and, at that point, cops set up a perimeter,” said the source, adding that K9 units, helicopters and emergency services were also called to the scene.

When officers tracked the car, they discovered that it had been stolen from within the confines of the 72nd Precinct from a victim who – when contacted by police – wasn’t yet aware that the car had been jacked.
