62nd Precinct Police Beat: Man slashes driver over cab fare

Between Saturday, April 2 and Monday, April 4, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one felony assault, one robbery, one grand larceny and one burglary. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

NOT FARE

A cab driver was assaulted near 74th Street and 17th Avenue on Monday, April 4 at around 7:50 p.m. after a verbal dispute with a passenger over cab fare, according to cops.

The 25-year-old passenger pulled out a knife and slashed the driver’s right hand during the argument, cops said.

SLASH AND DASH

Two unknown perps made a quick getaway on Saturday, April 2, after assaulting and robbing a 34-year-old man near 19th Avenue and 79th Street.

According to a nearby witness, the 34-year-old and the two unidentified perps were engaged in an argument-turned-chase near 79th Street and 18th Avenue.  When the perps caught up to the man on the corner of 19th Avenue, they slashed him in the chest and in the left leg with a knife. The pair stole the man’s wallet containing $100 before hopping into a dark-colored Nissan Altima, being driven by a third unknown perp.

ACCESS DENIED

On Sunday, April 3 at around 5:20 a.m., a 20-year-old woman was walking along 18th Avenue alongside a 24-year-old man when he suddenly grabbed her phone from her hands and ran into his house with it. The woman contacted him several times to retrieve her phone, according to cops, but the 24-year-old refused to return her phone.

BASEMENT BURGLAR

An unidentified perp(s) broke into a 56-year-old man’s home near Benson Avenue and Bay 10th Street on Monday, April 4, according to police, and fled with miscellaneous jewelry. Cops say the perp broke in through the basement door sometime around 9:30 a.m. There were no nearby cameras available to capture footage.
