72nd Precinct Police Beat: Burglars steal nearly $28,000 from Sunset building

Between Tuesday, April 12 and Monday, April 18, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two grand larcenies, two robberies and one burglary. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

BEAUTY AT A PRICE

Police say that a commercial building at Second Avenue and 47th Street was burglarized, with hundreds of beauty supplies worth approximately $27,882 taken sometime between Friday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m. and Monday, April 18 at around 11 a.m. Among the items filched were 200 SkinCeuticals worth around $12,000. An employee entered the building on Monday to find the items were missing. No forcible entry or damage to the business was reported.

THE COWARDLY FOUR

A 38-year-old woman was attacked and robbed by four teenagers , on Monday, April 18 at around 2 p.m., on a train near the 25th Street and Fourth Avenue subway station. Cops say that the four perps punched and kicked the victim. In addition, during the attack, two of the teens held the victim against the train door and took her cell phone, worth around $500, as well as her debit card, before fleeing the scene.

CHAIN GANG

On Tuesday April 12, at around 3:45 p.m. a 17-year-old girl was walking near the northwest corner of 40th Street and Fifth Avenue when a Hispanic man in his thirties approached the victim from behind and ripped her gold necklace from her neck. He then fled on foot westbound on 40th Street.

ALL FOR $5

Around $5 was stolen from a car parked at Seventh Avenue and 50th Street between around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 and the next morning, around 7:15 a.m. When the car’s owner, a 54-year-old man, he found his vehicle’s rear window smashed and the money gone. The damage was estimated at around $300.

DISAPPEARING BIKE

A bike, worth around $1,500 was stolen from a Sunset Park stoop sometime between Monday, April 18 at around 5 p.m. and the next morning at approximately 7 a.m. The bike had been left chained by its owner, a 36-year-old man, outside his apartment building at Seventh Avenue and 46th Street.
