72nd Precinct Police Beat: Cops arrest perp in possession of four bags of crack

Between Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, March 7, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two grand larcenies, one burglary, one incident of driving while intoxicated, and one incident of criminal possession of a controlled substance. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

DRUG BUST

Cops say that a 21-year-old man was busted for possession of a controlled substance on Wednesday, April 6 at approximately 5:12 p.m. Police say the man was on the northwest corner of Fourth Avenue and 57th Street in a car when they discovered that he was in possession of four bags of crack and two bags of marijuana. The suspect, who was arrested on the scene, had previously served a one-year sentence for armed robbery in New Jersey.

EASY GO

A 28-year-old woman’s car was broken into near Vanderbilt Street and Prospect Park Southwest. The victim claims that sometime between Wednesday, April 6 at around 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 7 at about 6:30 a.m., a crook broke the car’s passenger side window and stole a $300 portable GPS, a $150 Coach wallet and several credit cards.

No arrests have been made.

SUNSET SUPERMARKET BURGLARIZED

A supermarket on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street was broken into by unknown perps who stole around $7,500 cash sometime between Wednesday, April 6 at around 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 7 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Cops say the crook broke in through the store’s rear door before stealing the cash from an unlocked filing cabinet. Cameras recorded the burglary, but no arrests have been made.

SMASH HIT

A perp broke into a car parked on Seventh Avenue at 43rd Street sometime between Wednesday, April 6 at 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 7 at around 5 a.m. While the victim, a 31-year-old man, was gone, the crook smashed the car’s side window and stole several items. When the victim returned, he realized that approximately $3,100 of property, including an iPad, nail gun, saws and a drills tool bag, was missing.

DRUNK DRIVER CAUGHT

Cops busted a 27-year-old man for driving while intoxicated on Hamilton Avenue near the Gowanus Expressway on Thursday, April 7 at approximately 12:40 a.m.  Police stopped the motorist, who was driving approximately 70 miles per hour in a posted 50 miles per hour zone. Cops say the driver’s breath had strong odor of alcohol, along with slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

The perp failed a Breathalyzer exam and was placed under arrest on the scene.
