72nd Precinct Police Beat: Robber poses as cop steals over $1,000 from teen on subway

Between Wednesday, March 23 and Wednesday, March 30, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two grand larcenies, one robbery, one burglary and one criminal possession of a controlled substance. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

COP POSER

A Hispanic man, said to be in his 20s, posed as a cop to rob a teen of his money on Friday, April 1 at around 12:50 p.m.  The victim, a 19-year-old Asian teen, had boarded a southbound R train at the Court Street station. When the train approached the 59th Street station, the imposter grabbed the victim by the arm, pulling him off the train, told the victim that he was a cop and grabbed approximately $1,300 out of the victim’s pants pocket.  The robber then fled the scene.

NIGHTMARE ROOMIE

A 26-year-old white woman claims that her roommate, a 39-year-old white man, who is in the process of moving out of her apartment on Second Avenue and 57th Street, stole approximately $7,000 worth of her stuff, including $5,000 cash, a bike, and a Samsung television on Wednesday, March 30 at approximately 4:30 p.m. According to the victim, the perp had an accomplice, described by the victim as a Hispanic man.

DRUG BUST

A 21-year-old Asian man was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance on Tuesday, March 29 at around 11:55 p.m. The man was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for traffic violations on the southeast corner of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue. According to the police, the perp was in possession of Ketamine in powder and liquid form in a glass container and on a straw in plain view.

HIDE AND SEEK

An unidentified perp, described to be a black man in his late teens, broke into an apartment near 17th Street and Prospect Avenue on Friday, April 1 sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:11 p.m. When the woman who lived there returned home, she entered the bathroom and found the burglar hiding in the bathtub behind the curtains. When the victim approached him, he fled through the front door. Cops say it is unknown if any property was taken.

No arrests have been made.

BAD PARKING SPOT

A 29-year-old Asian man had approximately $800 stolen when he parked his vehicle near Seventh Avenue and 61st Street on Wednesday, March 30 between 2  and 4:45 a.m. While he was gone, an unknown crook broke the rear passenger side window and stole a wallet containing $800 and credit cards before he fled the scene in an unknown direction.
