Bay Ridge resident convicted for murder on Sunset Park stoop

A 25-year-old Bay Ridge resident has been convicted of murder in the shooting death of another man that took place after a confrontation on a Sunset Park stoop in August of 2013, announced District Attorney Ken Thompson on Friday, April 8.

According to Thompson, on August 25, 2013, the defendant, 25-year-old Valentin Torres, was sitting outside 744 39th Street at around 1 a.m. when he was approached by 35-year-old Johnny Rosado.

According to trial testimony, the two got into a fight over a comment Torres allegedly made to a woman. A witness stated that Torres then pulled out a revolver and fired, striking Rosado three times and also hitting another man in the leg.

Torres has since been convicted of second-degree murder, second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He will be sentenced on Friday, May 6 at which time he faces a maximum sentence of 32 years to life in prison.
