After a week of promoting her latest book on late-night and early morning television, Cameron Diaz took a few hours on a smaller stage in Bay Ridge to meet and take photos with local fans.
Hundreds crowded the sidewalks of Third Avenue and 85th Street in Bay Ridge on the evening of Thursday, April 7, with many ticket holders waiting for over an hour for their chance to meet the actress, author, and former model, and receive their signed copy of her new book at the Bookmark Shoppe (8415 Third Avenue).
Diaz has appeared in a string of television interviews during the week, including on NBC’s “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon,” and ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
The author has been promoting her latest title, The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time, a book that Diaz says is meant to comprehensively tackle the changes the female body undergoes as it ages, from both a physical and a mental standpoint, as well as the different health risks associated with aging.
Both Diaz and the bookstore received praise from the file of fans in line.
“I don’t know any other bookstore, especially in Brooklyn, that has so many personalities coming to it,” said Lori Bizzoco, a Long Island resident and fan of the actress, who said she also had a chance to walk the red carpet for the release of Diaz’s 2009 movie “The Box.” “I think she’s an absolutely wonderful actress.”
While some ticket holders said that meeting the movie star was just their fun way to spend the evening, others said they saw the event as once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the actress.
“Cameron Diaz usually doesn’t do photos with anyone, so this is pretty much the only shot that you have to get a photo with her,” said Washington Heights resident Vanessa Ellis.
