Man pronounced dead after perp steals his car, runs him over with it

A 63-year-old man was pronounced dead Monday morning after an unidentified perp hijacked his car and ran him over with it.

According to cops, the 63-year-old had left his key in the ignition of the car – parked outside 721 Fourth Avenue in Greenwood Heights – and upon returning, was approached by an unknown individual who robbed him of his iPhone before jumping into the car on Monday, April 4.

Once behind the wheel, the perp allegedly ran the man over and fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and police are still searching for the carjacker.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Phillip Dellegrazie of Dyker Heights. During the incident, Dellegrazie followed the individual in a separate vehicle until he encountered the perp again in front of 709 Fourth Avenue. The victim exited the vehicle to approach the truck at which time the victim fell to the ground and was struck by the flatbed truck.

The suspect fled the scene, abandoned the flatbed truck on 22nd Street between Fifth and Fourth Avenues and fled on foot to parts unknown. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
