62nd Precinct Police Beat: Cop impersonator strikes in Bensonhurst

Between Tuesday, May 10 and Monday, May 16, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one robbery, two grand larcenies, one felony assault and one burglary. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

A 35-year-old woman told officers at the 62nd Precinct that a man, dressed in a full NYPD uniform, came to her Bay Ridge Parkway home on Monday, May 16, and told her that she would be arrested if she did not give him $8,000. The woman also told cops that she received a phone call telling her to “comply with the officer at her door.”

When the woman told the man at her door that she did not have the money, the man told her that she had 45 minutes to an hour to come up with it, otherwise she would be arrested. The perp then left the scene. He is described as a white man with a dimple on his left cheek.

DOWN THE BLOCK

A 31-year-old Asian woman was walking near 68th Street and 20th Avenue on Thursday, May 12 around 9 a.m. when an unknown perp, described only as a white man, approached her from behind, grabbed her purse and tried to flee. The woman, refusing to let go of her purse, struggled with the perp for half a block. The man eventually reached into the purse and grabbed approximately $700 before taking off.

REPEAT TOYFFENDERS

According to cops, on Tuesday, May 10, a man and a woman walked into a Bay Parkway toy store, filled up shopping carts with various items, and left with them without paying around 12:09 p.m. The two perps made off with approximately $1,245 worth of merchandise, and a store employee told cops that the business currently has an open case against them for a previous larceny.

HEAD ON

According to police, a 25-year-old man was head-butted by a 41-year-old man when he was attempting to put him in the back of an ambulance on Monday, May 16 at around 7:50 p.m. near Kings Highway and Dahill Road. The 25-year-old sustained swelling and a bruised upper lip after the blow.

BIKE BURGLAR

An unknown perp broke into the basement of a Bay Parkway home on Friday, May 13 and stole two bikes valued at $1,500, according to cops. The perp allegedly walked into the unlocked basement of the building and broke the door to a locked storage room. He then proceeded to flee through a back door of the building. The bikes belonged to a 51-year-old man.
