62nd Precinct Police Beat: School bus stolen from parking lot

Between Friday, May 20 and Sunday, May 22, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one grand larceny auto, two robberies and one grand larceny. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

BUS JACKER

An unknown person stole a school bus from Congregation Ichud Chasidm near 62nd Street and 15th Avenue on Sunday, May 22 at around 6 p.m. According to police, the bus driver parked the bus in the parking lot of the 62nd Street building and upon returning the next morning, saw that it was gone. Cops say that vehicle had nothing inside, but, the spare keys are kept on the bus and the gate to the parking lot is kept unlocked. The bus was later recovered at 45th Street and Second Avenue in the 72nd Precinct.

BOTTLED UP

A 24-year-old Hispanic man was robbed of his cellphone and $80 on Friday, May 20 at around 4 a.m. after two Hispanic men approached him from behind, hit him in the head with a beer bottle and punched him in the ribs near 17th Avenue and 73rd Street. The 24-year-old was taken to Lutheran Medical Center and treated for cuts to the head and pain.

FREAKY FOURSOME

According to police, while walking home along 84th Street on Saturday, May 21 at around 2:55 a.m., two Hispanic men were followed, harassed and robbed by four perps. The victims were hit with glass beer bottles and the perps made off with one of the men’s cellphones. Cops later found two males fitting the description of the perps near Bay Parkway and Bay 29th Street. The pair was apprehended by police after a foot pursuit.

DESK DUPE

A 43-year-old man left his wallet on his desk at work on Friday, May 20 at around 2 p.m. only to find it missing when he returned later in the day. The wallet thief made off with $1,110 and the man’s credit card and social security card.
