Duo picked up in Dyker for tire, rim theft

Cops arrested a pair of suspects in connection with the attempted theft of tires and rims from an Infiniti sedan in the early morning hours of Monday, May 30.

Captain Joseph Hayward, the commanding officer of the 68th Precinct, told this paper that the pair was picked up at 12th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway as they fled the scene just after 1 a.m. on Memorial Day.

“They had already removed one tire and rim and were in the process of removing the next when they got spooked and left the scene,” said Hayward. “They wound up getting pulled over by cops, and inside the car were tools used to remove tires and rims.”

This is the second pair of suspects in tire and rim thefts that the precinct has picked up in the last month, said Hayward, who added, “We believe we are going to see a drastic decrease in tire and rim thefts,” which have plagued the neighborhood over the past several months, with Honda Accords a particular target of the thieves.

The pair was charged with attempted grand larceny and auto stripping.
