Gravesend school gets down at annual Dewey Boogie Ball

One Gravesend school just got down for a good cause.

The John Dewey High School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) held the third annual Dewey Boogie Ball on Saturday, May 14 – a yearly event that celebrates the seventies while raising funds for the school.

“It was absolutely fabulous,” raved PTA President Rob Accurso, stressing that — this year — local politicians like Councilmember Mark Treyger were in attendance. “This is the third year that we did it and each year, it builds up.”

Close to 300 people packed out the school (50 Avenue X) for an evening of live disco – courtesy of Disco Unlimited, great food and good fun.

“Everybody enjoyed the band,” Accurso said, noting that Disco Unlimited “works wonders getting everybody on the dance floor.”

Attendees also enjoyed some time in an LED photobooth, provided by NYC Party Masters.

“[The Boogie Ball] is a win-win,” said Accurso. “It’s a great event that raises money for us as a PTA to support the school. We’re already planning next year’s event.
