May Cop of the Month helped take random shooter off streets of Dyker

For capturing a man who was shooting off a loaded gun at random in Dyker Heights last month, Police Officer Dwayne Hodge earned Cop of the Month honors at the most recent meeting of the 68th Precinct Community Council.

Hodge – a member of the precinct’s anti-crime team – works the late night hours in plain clothes, noted Captain Joseph Hayward, the precinct’s commanding officer, told attendees at the May 17 meeting at the station house, 333 65th Street.

“On April 8, shots were fired by a career criminal in the vicinity of 12th Avenue and 66th Street,” recounted Hayward. “This violent individual was firing multiple shots into the air while driving his vehicle. Officer Hodge and his team quickly apprehended this menace and recovered a loaded .357 revolver.”

In total, Hodge – who started his career with the NYPD on July 6, 2010 — has made over 100 arrests since being assigned to the 68th Precinct.
