68th Precinct Police Beat: Two perps hold victim at knifepoint, come up empty-handed

Between Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 29, the 68th Precinct received reports of three grand larcenies, one robbery and one burglary. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

BUSTED TIRE

Two male perps — one 56 years old, the other 26 — were busted by police and arrested for grand larceny. According to cops, a 24-year-old man witnessed the twosome attempting to steal tires with a tire jack and other tools from a car parked at 12th Avenue and 77th Street on Sunday, May 29 at around 1 a.m. The perps fled eastbound in a black vehicle. They were later arrested by cops.

ATTEMPTED KNIFE ROBBERY

Cops say a 28-year-old man was walking westbound on 62nd Street and 12th Avenue on Wednesday, May 25 at around 12:20 p.m. when two males, described by the victim as being in their early 20s, confronted him with a knife, grabbed his shirt and told him to give them everything he owned or they would stab him.

One of the perps told the other that they should leave. The victim then bolted and ran towards 64th Street. The perps chased him, but then fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

NOT LOCKBOX

A crook broke into an apartment on 72nd Street between Fort Hamilton Parkway and 10thAvenue on Tuesday, May 24 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and left the home with a lot of loot.

The theft was discovered when the victim, a 58-year-old woman, returned to her home to find the rear kitchen window open. The perp also broke into the lockbox and stole $5,000 worth of cash and jewelry. The woman told police that although the window was closed, it wasn’t locked when she left.

UNSCRIPTED

A 38-year-old woman had a purse, earrings and cash worth over $2,000 stolen from her at a movie theater at 68th Street and Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, May 24 at around 10 p.m. According to police , the woman left the theater before she realized that an unknown perp had made off with the gear.

DISAPPEARING ACT

A 32-year-old woman claims her wallet, driver’s license and three credit cards were stolen at a bar at 72nd Street and Third Avenue on Saturday, May 21 at around 2 a.m. The victim and her friend were sitting at a table when she left her wallet on it. Her friend put a sweater over the wallet before going outside to smoke. While they were gone, a crook stole the wallet.
