“A Taste of Fifth Avenue” coming to Bay Ridge

Don’t miss out on the fun of Fifth Avenue this summer!

Sponsored by the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), Fifth Avenue will host its first ever “A Taste of Fifth Avenue,” where, similarly to Third Avenue’s “Summer Stroll,” restaurants, cafes and bakeries along Fifth Avenue will be putting out their delicacies for Brooklynites to sample and enjoy.

The delicious event will be on Friday, June 24 and Friday, August 26, where the avenue will be closed from 73rd to 84th Street from 6-10 p.m.

“There will be a lot of food put out by the restaurants,” said Basil Capetanakis, vice president and founding member of Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue BID. “It’s important for local people from the area to come and promote our restaurants and shops.”

As you stroll the strip, look for gourmet Italian, Chinese and Greek, as well as more baked goods and dishes.

While snacking on Fifth Avenue’s diverse cuisines and roaming around on the warm summer day, you can bring along friends and family to also enjoy live music, games, and rides.

And don’t miss the pizza-eating contest at Rocco’s, 7818 Fifth Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. This beloved event usually takes place during the Fifth Avenue Festival, but was washed out at the festival because of rain, so organizers decided to have it during the premiere “Taste of Fifth” event.

For 12 minutes, onlookers will watch contestants try to eat as much pizza as they can, with the first place winner scoring $2,000, the second place winner receiving $1,000 and the third place winner receiving $500. Proceeds from the contest will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
