It was a close call for Sunset Parkers.
At around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, a warehouse building at First Avenue and 42nd Street suddenly collapsed.
The building, located inside Bush Terminal Park, has been abandoned and was unoccupied at the time of the collapse. No injuries were sustained, according to police.
“There has been a building collapse at 1 43 street in Brooklyn. The building was vacant at the time No reported injuries,” said NYPD Sergeant Carlos Nieves on Twitter, adding that there was no fire visible before or after the collapse.
The FDNY spent the night searching the rubble as a precaution. Approximately an hour after the collapse, firefighters declared that the area was empty.
According to Nieves, Police Officer Ben Colección and an NYPD canine were at scene following the collapse and conducted a search for individuals that may have been found in the rubble.
Firefighters and police are still investigating the cause of the collapse.
