Bay Ridge Hyundai honors slain NYPD detective during grand opening

The stepdaughter of an NYPD detective killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan was gifted with a brand new car courtesy of a cooperative effort between the NYPD Detectives Endowment Association, “Sopranos” star Tony Sirico and Bay Ridge Hyundai.

Detective Joseph Lemm, who was killed on his third tour of duty last year while serving as a technical sergeant with the Air National Guard, was honored on Saturday, June 25 during the dealership’s grand opening when Lemm’s 17-year-old stepdaughter Brooke was presented with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

Lemm was also a 15-year veteran of the NYPD and had attained the title of detective in January, 2014, while serving with the 50th Precinct in the Bronx.

Adam Rosatti, general manager at Bay Ridge Hyundai, spoke of his support for the NYPD and U.S. troops, both formidable roles filled by Lemm.

“We made a joint effort to do this donation,” said Rosatti, who approached Sirico about honoring the detective. “We did not just want to throw money at a charity; we wanted to see where our money was going.”

In addition to receiving the car, Brooke will also have her insurance bill covered by Bay Ridge Hyundai for six months.

“It just shows that we are a dealership which does not just care about profits; we wanted to do something that would resonate with the community,” said Rosatti.
