Judges honored at annual Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association dinner

Red Hook’s Liberty Warehouse (260 Conover Street) was the backdrop for the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association’s (BWBA) 98th annual dinner – a festive soiree that honored two deserving judges on Monday, June 6.

The annual dinner and awards ceremony celebrated the Honorable Lawrence Knipel, administrative judge for civil matters in the Second Judicial District, who was presented with the Hon. Beatrice M. Judge Recognition Award and the Honorable William C. Thompson, retired judge of the Appellate Division, Second Department, who received the Joanne Minsky Cohen Award.

“I was totally delighted,” said Knipel. “It was a beautiful affair, well attended, overlooking the harbor, elegant and it was a total thrill to receive the award from the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association.”

The mission of BWBA, according to its website, is to “eliminate gender bias in the court, to acknowledge and advance the skills and status of women lawyers in the profession, and to promote, protect and further the rights of all women.”
